Sharon Barber
Registered Midwife
I am a graduate of the UBC Midwifery program
2005. Abbotsford has been our home for the past 20 years.
My husband Sean and I have three grown children and two
beautiful grand-children.
My passion for midwifery began many years
ago when I had a home-birth attended by a midwife in Alberta.
My educational background includes a Bachelor
of Arts Degree (2001) in Psychology & Anthropology,
and a Bachelor of Midwifery degree (2005).
I believe strongly in the natural process
of birth and look forward to meeting with you and sharing
in your journey toward motherhood. I provide care that is
holistic and family-centered.
"With every visit our excitement and anticipation
grew, as did our appreciation of midwifery care! You carefully
explained all our options and expertly guided us through
the pregnancy and labour/delivery. Your warm nurturing nature
made the experience memorable. Every woman deserves a midwife!
Your calm presence and encouragement made the whole labour
and delivery much easier to handle."

Angela Joy Rooke
Registered Midwife
My journey to becoming a midwife started in the late 1990s
when I began working as a volunteer doula in the Fraser
Valley. I caught the bug and was unable to let
go of my passion for birth and for empowering and educating
women. In 2002, the University of British Columbia opened
the only midwifery training program in Western Canada and
I was delighted to be accepted with the first intake of
students. During my 4 years at UBC I worked in clinics,
homes and hospitals in Surrey, New Westminister, Maple Ridge,
Langley, Abbotsford, Chilliwack, and Stony Plain, Alberta.
During this time my formal midwifery education was added
to by the birth of my own daughter, Thea, who was born with
the assistance of midwives, in 2004.
I love working with mothers, families and babies, and I
am passionate about promoting mother-infant bonding in every
way that I can through prenatal and postpartum education,
birth support, and breastfeeding assistance. The most rewarding
part of my job is seeing parents and babies fall in love
with each other. I feel so privileged to be part of such
a magical time in peoples lives.

Erin Price
Registered Midwife
I have been a Registered Midwife practicing in Vancouver
for the past year since graduating from the UBC Midwifery
program in early 2007. I have lived in Vancouver for the
past eight years with my two daughters, Ramona (6 years)
and Imogen (4 years), but my family is originally from rural
southwestern Ontario. I first began my Midwifery studies
at UBC in 2002, inspired after my first daughters
hospital birth with incredible midwives. I took some time
off school for Imogens birth, which turned out to
be a surprisigly fast & furious birth at home, a little
sooner than anticipated (I was right in the middle of cleaning
out all my closets!)
Before entering into the Midwifery program I completed
a Bachelors Degree in Womens Studies and Creative
Writing at York University in Toronto, ON. The various threads
of my academic career and personal experience with birth
and as a new mother have woven together into a strong commitment
to the provision of accessible, holistic, woman-centered
maternity care.
Toward this end, I have had the opportunity to work with
many diverse and wonderful families in a variety of busy
Vancouver Midwifery clinics, as well as with several Obstetric/Physician
and Midwifery practices in Richmond, the Fraser Valley and
in rural Northern Ontario.
My family and I are very excited about making our new home
in the Fraser Valley, and I am particularly fortunate to
be joining with Sharons busy practice in Abbotsford.
I look forward to being involved in the care of women and
their families through such a dynamic transition in their
lives.
