Jill Pearman, RM
My path toward midwifery began in 1995, while completing
an undergraduate degree in Women's and Environmental Studies
at the University of Victoria. My interest in natural health
care and women's issues evolved into a dream to become a
midwife. I joined and was soon an active participant in
the Midwifery Task Force and the Aspiring Island Midwives
(which later became the Consumers of Midwifery Education
Group). I attended related workshops and pursued training
and work as a Doula and Breastfeeding Counselor. In 1998
I began the midwifery education program at the Seattle Midwifery
School (SMS) , where I gained clinical experience in Victoria
and Vancouver BC, Toronto Ontario, Seattle and Olympia Washington,
and Manila Philippines. Throughout my years at SMS, I held
the position of Student representative to the Board of the
Midwives Association of BC (MABC). I graduated from midwifery
school at the end of the year 2000, successfully completed
the College of Midwives of BCs (CMBC) Prior Learning and
Experience Assessment program in 2001, and began practice
at the beginning of 2002. Ongoing professional activities
have included representing the MABC on the Advisory and
Selections Committees for the midwifery education program
at the University of British Columbia, and the CMBCs Quality
Assurance committee. I enjoy a busy full-time practice with
the Cook St. Community Midwives in our lovely heritage home
clinic in Victoria.
