Registered Midwife
My passion to become a midwife was inspired by my sons'
births, one born in hospital and one born at home, both
attended by midwives.
I was a founding member of Aspiring Island Midwives (AIM)
which seeked out and promoted avenues for women to enter
midwifery training programs. I have worked with several
organizations that promoted women's health, from the Victoria
Birth Control Clinic to prenatal classes for both Midwives
and General Practioner's clients.
I went on to complete a three-year direct-entry midwifery
program at the Seattle Midwifery School, which took me to
training sites from the Oregon Coast to the South Pacific.
I am an executive Board member of the Midwives Association
of BC and the acting chair of the Risk Management Committee.
As Vancouver Island had been my home for several years
prior to pursuing midwifery, I am happy to return with my
family once again. I am looking forward to providing midwifery
care to families of the Cowichan area.

Registered Midwife
I first became interested in midwifery in 1991 after spending
a year in Ghana, West Africa. On my return to Canada I became
involved in the midwifery community in BC, and what soon
became a passion eventually led me to England where I completed
a 3-year midwifery education program. After earning registration
status in the UK, I moved back to Vancouver, went through
the registration process in BC and began working. I practiced
for three years with The Midwifery Group in Vancouver before
moving to the Cowichan Valley. My husband and I and our
four children love living on the Island, and it has given
me immense pleasure to be a part of CMG, providing care
to families in the valley

I became interested in becoming a midwife
during the pregnancy of my son in 1992. At the time, I was
pursuing a degree in women's studies at the University of
Victoria, and saw midwifery as a place to offer women and
their families care that was safe and empowering. I became
a Doula in 1994 and went on to complete a three year direct-entry
midwifery program in Seattle, Washington. My training included
clinical internships in Washington State, Vancouver and
Port-Vila, Vanuatu. After graduation I spent several years
between two busy practices in Victoria and Vancouver. In
2001 my partner and I made the decision to relocate to the
Cowichan Valley to pursue my midwifery and his farming.
We purchased a small acreage outside of Duncan and together
with my long time friend and midwifery partner Selina Boily,
Cowichan Midwifery Group (CMG) was born. At the end of 2004
I took a leave from work for personal time and in June 2005
we had our second child, and despite the gap in ages we
are loving the expansion of our family. During this pregnancy
I often reflected upon the profession I had been drawn to.
Providing care to women and their families, in what is often
the most profound times of our lives, is an absolute honour.
I continue to be in awe of both the differences and similarities
that women and families have, in pregnancy, labour and birth.
I remain committed to women and their right to chose both
care provider and place of birth and I embrace pregnancy
and birth as primarily normal events in life's journey.
