Serving

Richmond, Vancouver, North Vancouver, Burnaby, New Westminster

Family Tree Midwifery is a midwifery clinic located in Vancouver's downtown east side, in one of the Portland Hotel's newer buildings which also houses the Co-op Radio, the Radio Café and a top of the line Dental clinic. There are well renowned physicians on site such as Dr. Gabor Mate, MD. We support women and their families throughout the childbearing experience and increasing access to choices in health care for women.

The clinic is located close to Strathcona and Chinatown. Home visits or clinic visits are available.
We hope to eventually include free prenatal classes, transit vouchers, vitamins and other services such as doula support with our comprehensive prenatal, birth and postpartum services.

This clinic is open to all women, from all income levels and all areas of Vancouver. All women who use the clinic or the home visit services will actually help to fund and increase the extra services provided for all. All midwifery services and prenatal services are free.

Heather Munro, Registered Midwife
BMw (Bachelor of Midwifery)

I am a graduate of the 2005 UBC Midwifery Program. During this 4 year program I have attended over 200 births in both hospital and at home which has enabled me to gain great experience in working with midwives, obstetricians, paediatricians and other health professionals.

My goal is to increase access to midwifery. I offer home or clinic prenatal and postpartum visits. I have found that providing visits in the woman's home can make prenatal visits more accessible, especially for women with children already. Flexibility in appointment time can also be helpful to women who are working full time. I work out of Balance Health Clinic (balancehealthbc.com) on Commercial Drive and Family Tree Midwifery in the Portland Medical Clinic (familytreemidwifery.org).

Before entering Midwifery I finished four years of pre-medical sciences. I also have training in shiatsu and Massage Therapy and have worked as a doula and breastfeeding counsellor. I attended Seattle Midwifery School in Washington State prior to completing the UBC Midwifery Program.

My daughter, Oceana, is 8 years old and was born with the assistance of a Registered Midwife. This experience strengthened my resolve to become a midwife. I was already a Doula prior to her birth. I am excited about being able to increase access to midwifery in the downtown east side. If you are interested in becoming a client (home visits or clinic visits at either location) or if you would like to volunteer for the midwifery society please contact me anytime.
