Heather Lee Hall,
Registered Midwife,
Registered Herbal Practitioner
I have been working full-time as a registered midwife in
the South Fraser region for the last 4 years and have met
and cared for many wonderful families during that time.
My background is in the field of holistic health care for
women and children, specializing in herbal medicine, which
I began in the late 1970’s. Birthing my daughter into
the loving hands of midwives (in 1981) was one of the most
profound and empowering experiences of my life. I knew then
that I had been called to assist women and families in finding
their own strength and wisdom, and to facilitate the powerful
process of bringing a new life into the world.
My full time midwifery training began in 1993 with four
years of apprenticeship and my formal studies have included
three years of university health sciences and the three
year midwifery program at Seattle Midwifery School. I have
had the honour of attending births in Washington State,
St. Lucia (Caribbean), Inukjuak (Nunavit), Victoria and
of course, the Fraser Valley.
I believe that pregnancy, labour and birth are profound
life events which affect every aspect of a person, a couple,
a family. I support women and families in keeping labour
and birth as normal as possible. By getting to know a woman
well and understanding her preferences and responses I am
able to ease her through any challenging experiences.
I use my knowledge of herbal medicine and 'complementary'
therapies, such as homeopathy, massage and aromatherapy
to whatever degree my clients wish. I like to offer a smorgasbord
of choices for any given problem and let my client take
the lead in choosing whichever option she likes the most.
I have found the most effective way to advocate for my
clients is to develop good relationships with other caregivers
in the medical team. I've gotten to know so many wonderful,
skilled and compassionate nurses and physicians through
my work and I have learned a lot from them. If a specialist
is required I try to work, whenever possible, with someone
who truly understands and follows a philosophy of deep respect
for my client and her choices.
Attending birth is a very humbling and profound experience.
Each labour and birth is as unique as each baby is. I am
continuously awed by the power of women and the boundless
love that creates a new family.
"We are so lucky that such a passionate informative
person was a part of our care. We cannot thank you enough
for guiding us through the most incredible delivery, and
giving us the confidence in ourselves to parent Chantel."
"It was such a joy to work with you. We
thank you for all your support and your loving hands. You
made our birth very special."
"We love you, and are so happy that you joined us in
an incredible life experience. Thank you for all your knowledge
and wonderful concoctions."
