I am proud that with midwifery care I can empower women
and their families by promoting choice through the child
bearing year. It’s rewarding to help women discover
their own unique ways of giving birth, and a privilege to
be part of the experience.
I started maternity care in 1987 as a practical nurse
at Women’s College Hospital in Toronto. I especially
enjoyed helping new moms with the transition to parenthood.
Later at Barrie’s hospital I continued my work as
a maternity LPN, and volunteered for 2 years as a birthing
coach.
In 1996, I moved to Nanaimo and set up home with my husband
and 4 children. At that time I took the Breastfeeding Counselor
program with Douglas College. In 2000, I began my journey
into midwifery apprenticing with Nanaimo midwives. I completed
my training in Seattle, and ventured to Port Vila Hospital
in Vanuatu (South Pacific) for a wonderful 3rd world experience.
In 2003, I graduated from Seattle Midwifery School, and
then became registered with the College of Midwives of BC.
Since the fall of 2004, I have been providing maternity
care to women in the Nanaimo area.
