Laurie Untereiner
Registered Midwife
It is a privilege for me to provide holistic
maternity care and support women and their families during
their childbearing years.
I am a mother of two wonderful, grown children. The midwifery
care I received for my second pregnancy inspired me to become
a midwife. Before attending a three year direct-entry midwifery
program in Seattle, I studied Anthropology, Women's Studies
and Biochemistry. While gaining a knowledge base of the
underlying biological dynamics of pregnancy, I focused on
childbirth as a cultural entity, as a woman's rite of passage
in her life. I believe pregnancy and birth are to be upheld
as normal healthy life transitions for women, their families
and their communities. To devote my life to sustaining this
belief will be a fulfillment of a life-long calling.
I attend births at home and Nanaimo Hospital and Duncan
Hospital.
