MABC denounces Midwifery Today's decision to hold their conference at a venue with openly homophobic policies

posted on August 14, 2019

The Midwives Association of British Columbia stands firmly against the decision of Midwifery Today to hold their upcoming conference at a location that blatantly enforces heteronormative values thereby reinforcing systemic oppression against the 2SLGBTQ+ community. The MABC stands against oppression in all forms and believes the actions taken by Midwifery Today is harmful and perpetuates systemic marginalization.

Our role as midwives is to provide care to all peoples regardless of sexual orientation, gender, ethnicity, race, religion, age, class and socioeconomic status.

The MABC celebrates our diversity and difference and believe in equity and inclusion for all members and clients. We urge Midwifery Today to move the conference to a place that is safe, accessible, inclusive and respectful of all people.

The MABC encourages members and the public to sign the petition below and demand that Midwifery Today end discriminatory policies against 2SLGBTQ+ people: https://www.change.org/p/midwifery-today-demand-midwifery-t…
