INDIGENOUS CULTURAL COMPETENCY TRAINING

posted on January 28, 2022

The MABC believes that the historical and current contexts of Indigenous peoples in BC are important for midwives to understand and consider each day as they provide care. We actively encourage all midwives to complete a training course in cultural competency, with the aim to improve cultural safety in the care of Indigenous people. We know that culturally safe care is better care, and better care leads to healthier communities.

The San'yas Indigenous Cultural Safety Training Program is an online self-paced module, that is free to register with your Health Authority email address. If you are unable to enroll for free, please reach out to programs@bcmidwives.com to discuss subsidized payment options.

UBC Centre for Excellence in Indigenous Health runs various workshops throughout the year. Their most recent workshop ran on 30 Nov, 2021 'Decolonizing Wellness: Indigenous Women’s Perspective on Healthcare'.

The First Nations Health Authority offers free webinars in Cultural Humility on an ongoing basis.

PHSA Indigenous Health and the Southwest Ontario Aboriginal Health Access Centre have developed an Indigenous Cultural Safety Learning Series where you can access free webinars. To register for upcoming seminars or to watch the videos of past seminars click here.
