In January 2018 Bloom Family Wellness Collective opened their doors in downtown Dawson Creek, housing the first midwifery clinic for northeast BC.
These midwives, who are covered by MSP the same way physicians are, have been very busy since they opened their doors and delivered nearly 60 babies and provided care to 116 women in total during 2018.
“The collective is unique to this part of BC, although such collaborations are well established in most other larger centers” says Sonje Juul, owner of Dawson Creek Midwifery and a registered midwife with over 10 years of experience in obstetric and neonatal care.
The collective has recently relocated to central downtown and rebranded their name to be able to better support the demand for professional collaboration around pregnancy and newborn care as well improved access for young families. “Bloom Pregnancy and Wellness Clinic now replaces our previous name, Bloom Family Wellness Collective,'' says Juul.
Chvonne Hutchings, doula and prenatal educator says they are very proud of what this collective has become. “We now not only house midwives, doulas, counseling services, photographer, but have included a maternity physician, massage therapist, holistic nutritionist and 3D/4D/HD ultrasounds to our list of service providers. We also have a very successful magazine that is published online every quarter that has had great feedback all across BC, even though our aim was to mainly provide information and resources to our local community. To make pregnancy care more accessible, the midwives and Dr Popa are also offering walk-in pregnancy care on Fridays because we understand that families have questions that they would like to ask in-person when it comes to choosing a pregnancy care provider and we want to encourage people to experience our beautiful space”
Another unique service that has joined the Bloom team is cloth diaper retail and washing service. “We stock the most beautiful cloth diapers, bibs, swim diapers and more, and offer a range of services to help families with lowering the cost and footprint of their diapering needs” says Joan Deibert, owner of The Cloth DIaper Place.
It is clear that these women have a passion for serving the community and ensuring that pregnant women and mothers with small babies are well cared for, connected and informed.
