This posting is not a job posting, but rather a call for interest to interview for New Graduate Fellowship privileges at a site in the Fraser Health Authority.
We are seeking to hire 1-2 permanent midwives to our interdisciplinary practice at Roundhouse Midwives & Family Care in Victoria BC. Please see attached posting for details.
Inlet Birth is a collaborative, interdisciplinary maternity care practice, founded in 2018, serving the community north of the Fraser (Burnaby, New Westminster, Coquitlam, Port Moody, Port Coquitlam, Pitt Meadows), and others who plan to give birth at Royal Columbian Hospital [RCH].
Our team culture is the best part: we focus on evidence-based care, assumption of benevolent intent; physical and psychological safety; compassion and kindness; and excellence. We provide high-quality care to our clients while prioritizing a safe space in which to do our oftentimes-challenging work.
What types of care providers collaborate to provide care? Midwives, family physicians, consultants, registered nurses and lactation consultants work as a team to provide evidence-based care that not only supports the health needs of clients and newborns, but also helps to build community, form bonds between peers, and encourage confidence and skills-building for new families. We are looking for OB and peds to join the team. We have a perinatal mental health counsellor who works with our clients, and a team of trusted labour-support doulas who work exclusively with our clients for a reduced fee.
How does the billing work? Both MD and RM billing codes are used, depending on which care providers are involved at different points in care. With the exception of surgical-assist codes and homebirth second-attendant codes, billings are assigned to Inlet Birth, put into a “pool”, and providers are paid a flat fee per shift. In addition to the flat fee, a 52% quarterly bonus is paid out to team members (please contact us to request our FAQ for more information).
Will I pay overhead/practice fees? No overhead or practice fees are charged at Inlet Birth.
How does call work? A call group (of family physicians and midwives) provides “hard call” coverage, scheduled as 12-hour shifts with handover at 0800 and 2000. Another caregiver is scheduled for 12-hour backup call; this caregiver will also be available to assist the on-call caregiver in times of increased workload.
How does prenatal care work? Prenatal care provision follows current Perinatal Services of BC guidelines. It is provided via 1:1 or group in-person visits and (occasionally) Telehealth. Clinic hours are 4- or 8-hour clinic days as you prefer. If you have your own scheduling requests, we do our best to make your schedule work for you!
Where do births happen? At our excellent local site, Royal Columbian Hospital (RCH)–a tertiary centre with excellent NICU, OB, and anesthesia. (In accordance with our Alternative Practice Arrangement, we do not currently offer homebirth services. Clients requesting out-of-hospital birth are referred to one of several other local practices.)
How does postpartum care work? Hospital rounds and discharge visits are done by the RCH Call care provider. Early-postpartum home visits are done by the scheduled community care provider. Scheduled postpartum clinic visits for clients and newborns at 2/4/6 weeks are provided by midwives, family physicians, and registered nurses/LCs.
As early postpartum care in our community can be difficult to access for some clients, Inlet Birth also accepts referrals for in-depth postpartum care for up to six weeks postpartum, and hosts a referral service for early postpartum clients who either do not have a family physician, or cannot get in to see theirs within a few days of discharge.
Will I be able to be on call for my own private patients or another call group and Inlet Birth at the same time? Yes, as long as the births are planned to happen at RCH.
Who follows up on labs? Caregivers follow up on their own labs. When you are on holiday, a team member can cover for you, and you can return the favour later.
Do you have good MOAs? We have three amazing long-time MOAs working with us, who are highly skilled at what they do, and bring warmth and understanding to clients and caregivers alike.
Do you use an EMR? We use OSCAR EMR at Inlet Birth, and chart encounters for all clinical contact to ensure continuity of care and record.
What about on-call pages? Our on-call line is facilitated by TelMediq, an app-based paging service that triages urgent vs. semi-urgent messages and has built-in backup algorithms to ensure patient safety.
Can I work part time? Yes. We encourage healthy work-life balance at Inlet Birth!
*Enhanced consideration will be given to BIPOC and LGBTQTS+ identified caregivers.
The Community Birth Program in Surrey is seeking midwives to join our team. We are flexible with start time but are hopeful for January 2025. Workload is one clinic day per week and 4-5 24hr shifts per month. If we are able to recruit enough midwives, we can transition to 12-hr shifts and more part-time opportunities. We are ideally looking for long-term team members but shorter term locums are welcomed as well. We would also consider call coverage only midwives.
Join our team-based practice of midwives, naturopathic physicians, nurse practitioner, obstetricians, lactation consultant, a doula collective and team of childbirth educators.
We serve a diversity of clients that keep us learning & growing. We offer Connecting Pregnancy group care.
We are well rooted at our site with incredible nursing and consultant support at the hospital and 2 collaborative OBs in our office. We are grateful for a dedicated call room with a private bathroom and an on-call lounge.

Come catch babies with us in beautiful downtown Langford, British Columbia!
We are seeking a Registered Midwife to join our team as a one-year locum for one of our full-time Midwives, who will be on maternity leave. We are hoping to find someone with at least one year of practice experience, as we will already have a NR and student with us this year. You will be able to use the locum privileges of the Midwife who is on leave. We are an expanding practice, so this position has the possibility of becoming permanent if that is something you are interested in!
Who We Are:
We are a team of Registered Midwives working with clients from Victoria, BC’s Westshore (Langford, Highlands, Colwood). Many of us have been working within the Victoria Midwifery community for >10 years. Currently, we have a team of 3.5 RMs, with 2 new RMs joining us later in the summer. We are, however, open to shifting and changing our team structure to support incoming Midwives and their desired way of practicing/doing on-call work.
We support interdisciplinary students within our practice and regularly support midwifery learners. We all hold privileges at Victoria General Hospital. We operate in a cost-sharing model – we all earn equal billings, we all pay equal portions of the overhead, and we all contribute to the work of keeping the clinic running smoothly. This lends to cooperation and a feeling of inclusion for all midwives at the practice. We value and believe in supporting one another. We believe this is critical in sustaining midwifery life balance. We have a lot of fun together and try to regularly plan team events, meals, and activities. We especially love admiring photos of each others’ pets after busy or difficult weeks.
About Our Clinic:
We serve a diverse population of pregnant people. Langford and the Westshore community is a rapidly growing community of young and diverse families and some of the most affordable housing left in the South Island! We regularly support young/teen parents, IBPOC folks, non-native English speakers, and 2SLGBTQIA+ families. Our office is located within a clinic space that is shared with acupuncturists and pelvic floor physiotherapists whom we routinely refer to. Overhead costs are shared proportionate to how much you work (full or part time) and affordable. We enjoy support from an excellent MOA. Our space includes laundry, parking, a small kitchenette, and everything you need to keep your clinic day running smoothly.
Our clinic is located in downtown Langford; steps away from several restaurants, coffee shops, a public library, a grocery store, and a gourmet ice cream store. It is accessible (no stairs) and is on a major bus routes.
Who You Are:
A Registered Midwife licensed to work in British Columbia. We are happy to mentor a New Registrant and have years of experience doing so. You will be very well supported by an experienced Midwife team, and we will provide orientation and support if you are new to Victoria General Hospital. We are hoping to hire a full time RM, ideally someone wanting to stay with us long term if it’s a good fit. Start date is flexible, likely October-November.
Victoria Midwifery is a growing Department of 45+ midwives, we have Department meetings every other month, and we have an active Signal chat group for home birth back ups and call support. Victoria also has an In House Resource Midwife position to provide in-hospital support for midwives. Victoria has approximately a 10-15% home birth rate, and approximately 10% of our own clients plan home births.
We have a fully booked caseload with a long waitlist of local pregnant people excited to secure midwifery care.
